Chios is the fifth largest island in Greece and tenth in the Mediterranean Sea. It belongs to the islands of the Northeast Aegean and together with Oinousses and Psara they constitute the department of Chios. The city of Chios is called Chora, which is the main harbor of the island, and it is located in the east of the island across theMikrasiatikes shores and the harbor of Tsesme. Apart from the city of Chios, the island also has 64 more villages. Some of them are Pyrgi, Mesta, Kardamyla,Avgonima and Volissos.
Various and beautiful are also the beaches all around the island. The most famous beach in Chios is Mavra Volia at the south of the island and it is counted in one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Chios is worldwide known for the production of natural mastic; the production of oil, figs and wine are also a remarkable point of the island. If you do get there you must definitely try the chian spoon sweets, chian ouzo with or without mastic as well as mastelo cheese.
